Hares have a superpower—they can use their incredible speed to evade capture by predators exponentially larger than themselves. The nature of a hare intrigued me. While cheetahs are often deemed as being the fastest animal, I wanted to spotlight the unique qualities that hares have, especially the structure of their rear legs, that enable their daring escapes. While at home during the pandemic, I gradually collected cardboard from the refuse room in my apartment building. Using the found material, I constructed a cardboard skeleton for the hare and proceeded to peel apart the layers in the cardboard to create a variation of texture—smooth and corrugated. This made the fur a more convincing texture as I worked to capture the movement of the hare in a 3-D format.
