My cats are subjects I’m very familiar with. Many of my sketchbook pages are filled with them positioned in various states. In this painting, I use my sketches to capture them in a scene of profound satisfaction. I find myself oddly jealous of their seemingly carefree lives. This painting is consumed by the color red, a color that is typically used only as an accent. I was interested in displaying the juxtaposition between a color often associated with violence and the serenity of the imagery.
