While on a five-week long road trip in the summer of 2023, I had the honor of witnessing an elk roaming in Yellowstone National Park. A few days later while making our way through Wyoming, I found myself in charge of collecting driftwood for a campfire. The driftwood immediately reminded me of the elk so it joined us on the rest of our road trip. Once back in New York City, I began to craft this sculpture. I drew reference from images of the elk, common deer taxidermy mounts, and my sculpture called "Untamed Hare" from 2021.
