This piece was created for the New York Public Library’s Teen Magazine Contest. The challenge given was to make something that could “make waves for positive change”. I was inspired by the Billion Oyster Project, an organization that aims to restore the historic oyster populations in the New York Harbor. I hoped to bring attention to the importance oysters have in the ecosystem, something that is often overlooked. I carefully selected watercolors and ink because of their tendency to bleed, which mirrors the natural curves in oyster shells.
